Tammy is responsible for all operational aspects of both firms. This includes management of resource allocation, workflows, and contracts with third party service providers. Tammy ensures we are compliant with all regulatory obligations, onboards new clients, oversees our billing practices, and manages use of the firm’s client account.
Tammy is our senior compliance officer, implementing our due diligence and AML procedures. She uses this expertise to assist clients in opening bank accounts and satisfying their due/diligence AML requirements with other third parties, thus taking care of a critical business aspect which many of our clients find a bothersome nightmare.
Before joining AJZ Legal, Tammy was an Assurance and Governance Executive at a regulated pensions and life assurance company, where she managed the outsourcing relationships for legal, tax and compliance matters. She was also heavily involved with risk management, quality assurance monitoring, policy and procedure review/development, company secretarial and distressed asset management. Tammy acted as the liaison for the company with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (“GFSC”). The insight she gained in this role enables her to assist the AZJ Legal Team on the practical aspects of client matters that are before the GFSC.
Prior to moving to Gibraltar, Tammy was a qualified barrister and solicitor in Alberta, Canada. Her legal career spanned 20 years in various roles, including General Legal Counsel for a family office, Judicial Legal Counsel to the Court of Queen’s Bench and Provincial Court of Alberta, and a Civil Litigation Associate at a law firm.
Tammy was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the Province of Alberta, Canada, in 2001, and held membership of the Law Society of Alberta until 2019. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Calgary, where she received the Department of Justice Canada Dispute Resolution Award and the University of Calgary White Paper Annual Award. Tammy also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Great Distinction) from the University of Lethbridge and is co-author of the academic paper “Judicial Citation, the Supreme Court of Canada, and the Lower Courts: A Statistical Overview and the Influence of Manitoba” published in the Manitoba Law Journal (Vol. 24, Issue 2, 1996, p. 335).
